Chapala Haciendas is a rural type subdivision that is partially gated. The lots are generally larger than other areas of Lake Chapala and the prices are generally lower than Ajijic. There is a mixture of housing types from upscale to lower-end. It is located on the highway between Chapala and Guadalajara, about 3 minutes out of Chapala. There are some nice lake views from this development, and for people on a budget and who want a view and a larger lot, this area may be worth looking at. A car is required most of the time, but there are frequent buses on the highway into town. It has all the services: water, power, telephone.
Ajijic is a town about 3 miles from, and a part of, the municipality of Chapala, in the State of Jalisco, Mexico. Situated on the north shore of Lake Chapala, surrounded by mountains, Ajijic enjoys a moderate climate year round. The population is around 15,000. Ajijic is located 5046 feet above sea level in the vast central Mexican plateau that is home to the Sierra Madre mountain range.
